It’s easy to focus on getting every last hair out and forget how delicate the foil is. Hold removable pieces by their frame, and resist the urge to scrub the metal surface.
Before you start, check whether your model allows rinsing. A head that comes off the handle isn’t automatically a washable head, and a washable head doesn’t automatically mean the whole handle can go under the tap.
Unplug it and make some room
Disconnect the charger and work somewhere you can keep the loose pieces together. Follow the head-removal steps in your manual. A small tray is handy if you’re working near a sink.
If you spot a torn or badly distorted foil, stop using that assembly. Cleaning won’t repair the damage.
Be careful where the brush goes
Check which parts the manufacturer says to brush. Don’t assume the brush is intended for every surface just because it came in the box. Keep pins, stiff tools and pressure from a cloth away from the foil.
For a washable model, follow its rinsing and cleaning-product instructions. For a dry-clean-only model, stick to the prescribed brushing routine. Braun and Panasonic both have care guides linked below.
Let it dry before putting it away
Leave cleaned parts to dry as instructed before closing the case. If your manual calls for oil, use the recommended type and apply it where specified. More oil or a different household lubricant isn’t a shortcut.
Refit the head carefully. If you cleaned it because the shave had become poor, pay attention to whether that helped. A change is useful information before you spend money on new cutters.
